Last year’s History Festival was so much fun, we’re doing it again, with even more activities. Announcing Merion Friends Meeting History Festival 2018<\/a>\u00a0on Saturday, May 19, 2018, 10 am – 3 pm.<\/p>\n

You especially won’t want to miss participating in our re-enactment of a traditional Quaker wedding ceremony at 1:30 pm in the Meetinghouse:<\/p>\n

“Friends know that marriage depends on this mutual commitment of the couple and not on any external service or words. Thus, the ceremony in which the couple formally announces this commitment is performed by the couple alone, in the presence of God, the families, and the worshiping community. Both the solemnity and the joy of the occasion are enhanced by its simplicity.”\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

In addition to most of the great exhibits from last year, there will also be ponies that kids (and adults) can pet and brush and a new historical exhibit on Quaker families and children. Our re-enactors will be joined by a new historical Quaker, Rebecca Lukens.<\/p>\n

\nWe saw a 19th century carriage up close…<\/a><\/p>\n

\n… and got to ride in a modern one<\/a><\/p>\n

\nWe re-created the lives and voices of influential Quakers from the 1840s<\/a><\/p>\n

\nWe were sad it was over, but we’re so excited to be doing it again!\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Most of the activities are free, though there is a charge for some things, like food, silhouette portraits, and carriage rides.<\/p>\n
