Ms. Alexander’s book, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, provides a penetrating analysis of the current system of policing, law enforcement, and criminal justice that shows why and how these systems have evolved and have been manipulated to create an undercaste of poor people of color.
Her thorough research and persuasive arguments have inspired educational activities and political action by faith groups across the country, including the series of lectures and activities co-hosted by Merion Friends Meeting and Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church last year.
